Ralph Lazo's grandchildren Nicole and Alex Thibodeaux and son-in-law Andrew Thibodeaux received a commendation from David Tokofsky and the other Board Members of the Los Angeles Unified School district for Lazo's support of Japanese Americans during World War II. Representatives of Nikkei for Civil rights & Redress (NCRR), Visual Communications (VC), and supporters attended the presentation on May 22, 2007. Lazo's family also received commendations from the Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission's Executive Director, Robin Toma, and from the Los Angeles City Council. "Stand Up for Justice, The Ralph Lazo Story" a co-production of NCRR & VC received support from the Board to be used in the distric's U.S. History classes.
