Amy Ishii and the Uno Family

NCRR member Amy Uno Ishii, who passed away in 1981 at the age of 60, was an outspoken advocate for redress and reparations for Japanese Americans.  Like her brother Edison Uno, Amy suffered from a serious heart condition.  Despite their poor health, neither was deterred from educating others about the concentration camps.  Amy lectured at countless meetings.  She took her “camps” slide show everywhere.  Edison Uno is widely considered as the first person to call for redress in the early 1970’s.  Tragically he died in 1976 at the age of 47 from a heart attack.  NCRR salutes the Uno family for their unwavering advocacy on behalf of Japanese Americans redress.
