Dennis Hastert
Speaker of the House
Office of Dennis Hastert
235 Cannon HOB
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Representative Hastert:

I support the demands of Nikkei for Civil Rights and Redress (NCRR), Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC), Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Counsel (AP3CON), Japanese American Cultural & Community Center (JACCC), Japanese American Bar Association (JABA), Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC), Manzanar Committee, Media Action Network for Asian Americans (MANAA), National Asian Pacific American Legal Consortium (NAPALC), Organization of Chinese Americans (CA), Visual Communications, and yellowworld.org for North Carolina Representative Howard Coble to issue a formal apology for his many misstatements concerning the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II as well as his conclusion that the incarceration was necessary because Japanese Americans “were probably intent on doing harm to us” just as “Arab Americans are probably intent on doing harm to us.”

Furthermore, I also believe that of Rep. Coble should be removed as Chair of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security. This is a far too important position to be held by someone promoting such reckless and irresponsible ideas. It is within your prevue to counsel Rep. Coble to step down as the committee chair in the best interest of the American people as a whole.

Signed:
